What are volume discounts?

Volume discounts provide a way for you to offer discounts on products and/or sub products when a customer buys in bulk. For example, you could create a volume discount that gives customers 5% off the price of t-shirts if they buy 10 or more.

Volume discounts can be applied for different Pricing tiers and/or Currencies and the discounts can be a percentage reduction, a price reduction or a fixed price.

Do sub products inherit volume discounts from the product?

Yes. If you have volume discounts against the product, then it's sub products will inherit them. A few things to note:

  • If you have a sub product volume discount with the same criteria (min quantity, pricing tier and currency) it'll override the product one.

  • If you're using a 'percentage off' or 'amount off', then it'll be applied to the sub product base price, not the product base price.

  • The quantity for inherited volume discounts are calculated per product, not against the sub product. i.e. if the customer adds 2 x green medium t-shirts and 1 x green large t-shirt, it'll think the quantity is 3. This means the volume discount would be applied to all sub products in the cart for this inherited product volume discount.

  • Any sub product volume discounts would also be applied in addition to any inherited product ones. If you don't want this behaviour, we recommend you just add sub product discounts.

What if the customer has a contract price?

If a volume discount applies, and it's cheaper, it'll override the contract price

Can I import volume discounts?

Not currently.
