How to add, edit, delete and use event categories.

What are event categories?

A category is a way of grouping events, like a folder or a section. When a user clicks on a category, any events associated with the category will be displayed. A event can be in more than one category. Categories are also hierarchical, meaning you can have categories within categories (i.e. sub-categories).

How are categories different from tags?

Categories can be nested with sub-categories while tags have a flat structure and are meant for labelling events across categories. For example, you may group events under categories like 'Seminars' and 'Conferences' with tags like 'Guest speakers' or 'Catered'.

How do I add a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left-hand menu.

  3. Click the Add button in the top right.

  4. Select an option from the drop-down menu under the Parent category heading.

  5. Enter a title under the Title heading.

  6. Optionally, enter a description (including text, photos & video) under the Description heading.

  7. Optionally, enter a page title (SEO) under the Page title heading.

  8. Optionally, enter a page description (SEO) under the Page description heading.

  9. Select an option from the drop-down menu under the Website status heading.

  10. Click the Add button.

How do I view a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left hand menu.

  3. Find the category you are looking for and click the View button in the Options column.

  4. On the top right are buttons to Delete or Edit the category.

  5. Below the category title are tabs for Category (general information) and Media (images).

How do I edit a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left hand menu.

  3. Find the category you are looking for and click the View button in the Options column.

  4. Click the Edit button in the top right.

  5. Update the category's details

  6. Click the Update button.

How do I move a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left-hand menu.

  3. Find the category you are looking for and select the Move option from the drop-down menu under More in the Options column.

  4. Select an option from the drop-down menu under the Move category heading.

  5. Click the Move button.

How do I re-order a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left-hand menu.

  3. Find the category you are looking for and select the Nudge up or Nudge down option from the drop-down menu under More in the Options column.

How do I publish/unpublish a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left-hand menu.

  3. Find the category you are looking for and select the Publish or Unpublish option from the drop-down menu under More in the Options column.

How do I delete a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Categories in the left-hand menu.

  3. Find the category you are looking for and select the Delete option from the drop-down menu under More in the Options column.

  4. Click the Delete button.

How do I add an event to a category?

To add an event to a category, you must have added at least one category.

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Events in the left hand menu.

  3. Find the event you want to add to a category and click on it.

  4. Click the Edit button in the top right.

  5. Scroll down to where it says Categories.

  6. Tick the categories you want to add the event to.

  7. Click the Update button.

How do remove an event from a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Events in the left hand menu.

  3. Find the event you want to remove from a category and click on it.

  4. Click the Edit button in the top right.

  5. Scroll down to where it says Categories.

  6. Un-tick the categories you want to remove the event from.

  7. Click the Update button.

How do I add multiple events to a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Events in the left hand menu.

  3. Tick the check boxes of the events you want to add to a category.

  4. Click the dropdown menu below the event list.

  5. Scroll down to where it says Add to category.

  6. Select the category that you want to add the events to.

  7. Click the Go button.

How do I remove multiple events from a category?

  1. Go to Commerce > Events.

  2. Click on Events in the left hand menu.

  3. Tick the check boxes of the events you want to remove from a category.

  4. Click the dropdown menu below the event list.

  5. Scroll down to where it says Remove from category.

  6. Select the category that you want to remove the events from.

  7. Click the Go button.

How do I change how the categories are displayed?

How categories are displayed can be edited in Commerce > Events > Settings, see 'Event settings'.
