What are quantity decimal places?

Quantity decimal places are the number of decimal places allowed for product or sub product quantities and stock. This is particularly useful for products or sub products that you want to sell or manage in partial units rather than whole units, such as fabric by the metre, cheese by the kilogram or paint by the litre.

How do quantity decimal places work?

Setting a quantity decimal place of 1 on a product or sub product allows you to sell the product or sub product in amounts like 1.5 (e.g. 1.5 meters of fabric). Setting a quantity decimal place of 2 on a product or sub product allows you to sell the product or sub product in amounts like 1.25 (e.g. 1.25 kilograms of cheese).

There are also several related settings that work in conjunction with quantity decimal places:

Website settings

Default website quantity - The initial quantity when a customer views a product or sub product. e.g. If set to 0.25, the quantity input will start at 0.25.

Website quantity step interval - The amount that customers can increase or decrease a product or sub product quantity. e.g. If set to 0.25, customers can increase or decrease quantities in steps of 0.25.

Minimum website quantity - The smallest quantity a customer is allowed to order. e.g. If set to 0.25, customers cannot order less than 0.25.

POS settings

Default POS quantity - The quantity automatically applied when a product or sub product is added to the cart via the Sell screen. e.g. If set to 0.25, that will be the initial quantity in the cart.

POS quantity step interval - The amount the quantity increases or decreases by when using the + or – buttons in the item edit modal. e.g. If set to 0.25, the quantities can increase or decrease in steps of 0.25 (This is not enforced, you can still enter other amounts manually).
